AVID

The AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) program at TeWinkle Middle School is designed to help students be successful in school. The ultimate goal of AVID is to make sure that participating students develop the necessary skills that will prepare them for high school and entry into a four year college/university.

• Teaches skills and behaviors for academic success through writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading.
• Builds College Preparedness and Career Knowledge
• College Tutors support AVID students in tutorials twice a week
• Creates a positive peer group for students including leadership opportunities
• Develops a sense of drive for personal achievement gained through hard work and determination
• AVID students attend college field trips both in person and virtual

The AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) Excel program at TeWinkle Middle School is designed to help students be more successful in school. AVID Excel is designed to prepare 7th and 8th grade students to enter 9th grade with the language skills that will enable them to succeed in rigorous coursework. AVID Excel provides additional support for English Language Learners.
