Band & Orchestra

TeWinkle’s Concert Band is our fundamental music course utilizing woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. This class is open enrollment accepting all students with or without prior experience. Students in this class will gain a foundational footstep in music literacy and performance skills through the preparation and performance of concert material. Concert Band empowers students in music through development of their musicianship by means of learning instrument mechanics, scales, long tone production, breath support, and crucially music literacy, or gaining the ability to read musical notation. Students in Concert Band develop together in their abilities to play and also their skills to work in tandem with one another to create their very first ensemble. 

TeWinkle’s Concert Orchestra is our fundamental music course utilizing orchestral string instruments. This class is open enrollment accepting all students with or without prior experience.  Students in this class will gain a foundational understanding in music literacy and performance skills through the preparation and performance of concert material. Concert Orchestra empowers students in music through development of their musicianship by means of learning instrument mechanics, scales, bowed and pizzicato technique, development of their rhythmic knowledge, and crucially music literacy, or gaining the ability to read musical notation. Students in Concert Orchestra develop together in their abilities to play and also their skills to work in tandem with one another to create their very first ensemble. 

TeWinkle’s Concert Choir is our foundational music course utilizing vocal studies to gain an understanding of music through literacy, practice, and performance. Students in this class will learn about the vocal mechanism as a means of music production. Students in Concert Choir will develop their voice to be able to blend in unison and harmony with other musicians, develop their breathing ability to enhance and strengthen their singing voice, and learn to utilize musical literacy and aural skills to both read and sing music, with or without notations. Students in concert choir develop a tight bond through the act of communal singing and have an opportunity to utilize their voices in musical performance, creating a wonderful sound both accompanied and a Capella. 

TeWinkle’s Symphonic band is our advanced performing band ensemble composed of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. This ensemble is by audition only based on prior experience and current musicianship and ability. Students in this class learn a further developed and more rigorous repertoire and technique, developing their foundational musicianship skills. Students in this class regularly are requested to perform and learn music at a challenging level in order to deliver exceptional performances. Students in the Symphonic band form a very close bond with one another and work as a team to accomplish performing high caliber music. 

TeWinkle’s Symphonic Orchestra is our advanced performing orchestra ensemble composed of stringed instruments. This ensemble is by audition only based on prior experience and current musicianship and ability. Students in this class regularly play through challenging repertoire for both rehearsal and performance, developing technique and understanding in sight reading, music literacy, and performance practice. Students in Symphonic Orchestra regularly create performances that demonstrate student comprehension of instrument and music study. Students in the Symphonic Orchestra are regularly asked to work as a team to accomplish performing high caliber music as a unison ensemble
