Curriculum and Instructional Materials

The Newport-Mesa Unified School District follows the State’s curriculum cycle to adopt updated, high quality textbooks and related materials. Students are provided with an adequate supply of Board-approved textbooks for all subject areas. The reading/language arts and mathematics curricula are aligned with District and State content standards. Teachers also select supplementary instructional materials to meet the specific needs of their students. History/Social Science and Science curriculum instruction are aligned with the District and State content standards. Individual schools also support instruction by providing a library/media center and technology resources in the classroom including computers, CD-ROM, and instructional television. Internet access is currently available in the library/media center and in all classrooms. Teachers and administrators have been trained in using the internet as an instructional tool in the classroom. Each school continues to develop a way of integrating technology into instruction and curriculum.
