AR Info

What is Accelerated Reader?

AR is a computer program that helps teachers manage and monitor students’ independent reading practice. Your student picks a book at his own level and reads it at his own pace. When finished, your student takes a short quiz on the computer. Passing the quiz is an indication that your student understood what was read. AR gives both students and teachers feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help support your student’s reading practice.

AR Bookfinder

You can search for book titles based on authors, topics, or titles of books.   You can find out if a book has an AR quiz, the reading level of the book, and the quiz points, too!

Simply visit: http://www.arbookfind.com/

If you have any further questions about the Accelerated Reader Program at TeWinkle Middle School, please contact the

teacher-Librarian, Mrs. Kling at tkling@nmusd.us

Here are some examples of Hilltop Middle’s A.R. incentives for students:

A.R. Semester Raffle:

When you attain 20% - 40% - 60% -80% - 100% of your semester goal, you can stop in

the library to have your name entered into a semester drawing for fabulous prizes. By

keeping up with your reading for A.R. you will have your name entered for the drawing

up to 5 times! Students will receive extra tickets for going beyond 100% of your goal (2

extra tickets every additional 100%).

Top Students:

The student earning the most points and the student with the highest percent of his/ her

goal will each receive a reward at the semester breaks.

200% Club:

Students who earn 200% or more of their semester goals will have a double-lunch each

Wednesday until the end of the semester. Students need teacher consent for double-lunch.

Not available on days with special A.R. scheduling.

5. It is cheating to have anyone help you take a quiz or to take a quiz for you.

6. It is cheating to take a quiz for someone else.

Student Agreement to Cheating Rules

I have read and understand the definition of cheating in Accelerated Reader. I agree not to

cheat. Cheating will not help me improve my reading skills.
